Privacy
Sonora is a navigation app for blind and low-vision users. We try to collect as little as possible, we don't sell any of it, and we don't run ads.
This is the plain-language version. The full legal document is longer and more thorough if you need it — for example if you work in privacy compliance or are doing legal diligence.
What we collect
- Your email, if you sign up for the newsletter.
- Your location, while you're using the Sonora app — that's how it tells you what's around you. You grant this permission in your device settings and can revoke it any time.
- Technical basics — IP address, device type, crash logs, the stuff any website or app records to stay online and debug problems.
We don't collect your name, your address, anything about your identity, or anything that counts as sensitive (race, religion, sexual orientation, health, politics, and so on).
What we use it for
- Running Sonora.
- Sending you the newsletter, if you signed up.
- Fixing crashes and understanding what's broken.
- Keeping the service secure.
We don't sell your data, we don't share it with advertisers, and we don't build profiles.
Who else sees it
Running a service means depending on a few other companies. The ones that touch any of your data:
- Cloudflare — hosts this website and routes our email.
- Buttondown — stores your address if you subscribed to the newsletter.
- Resend — delivers the email we send you.
- Apple and Google — distribute the Sonora app through the App Store and Play Store.
Each of them has their own privacy policy; we've picked them in part because they're reputable on that front.
How long we keep it
- Location data: up to 6 months.
- Email (if you subscribed): until you unsubscribe.
- Everything else: only as long as we need it.
Kids
Sonora isn't designed for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If we find out we have, we'll delete it. If you're a minor, we recommend using Sonora with a parent or guardian's involvement.
Your rights
Depending on where you live — EU, UK, Canada, many US states, and others — you have specific legal rights over your data. The short version: you can ask what we have, ask us to fix or delete it, or ask us to stop processing it. Email [email protected] and we'll handle it.
